Scripture reference

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother,
and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures,
they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

(Matthew 2:11)

Words

1. The wise men brought their gold and myrrh
and frankincense to Christ;
Discerning his divinity
And purpose for his life.
Each gift confirmed a role of Christ
That he would soon fulfill;
Becoming king and priest for us,
And bringing God's good will.

2. The gift of gold was for the king
Who's sov’reign over all;
He is the Lord of Heav’n and earth,
O'er creatures great and small.
The gifts bore witness to the roles
That Christ would soon fulfill;
Becoming king and priest for us,
And bringing God's good will.

3. The frankincense was for the priest
To offer up with praise;
Proclaiming God's great love and pow'r
Forever and always.
The gifts bore witness to the roles
That Christ would soon fulfill;
Becoming king and priest for us,
And bringing God's good will.

4. The myrrh foreshadowed Christ's own death
And days within the tomb;
Atoning for the sins of men,
And saving us from doom.
The gifts bore witness to the roles
That Christ would soon fulfill;
Becoming king and priest for us,
And bringing God's good will.

5. Christ is our King, he is our priest,
He is the risen Lord;
Abiding with us day to day,
He is the living Word.
So let us all with one accord
Sing praises that he came --
Extol our King, revere our priest,
And glorify his name!
